Alison Whitehurst is an American actress and singer - most notably seen as Cynthia Weil in the National Tour of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

Holding a BFA in Theatre Performance from Texas Christian University, she performed regionally throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex before transitioning to NYC with the premiere of The Fortress of Solitude at The Public Theatre. Book and music written by Itamar Moses (The Band's Visit) and Michael Friedman (Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson).

Alison particularly enjoys the development process, having now been a part of two readings leading to production. After her debut in NYC, Alison joined the workshop of Born For This: The Bebe Winans Story, directed and conceived by Charles Randolph-Wright (Motown the Musical) with music by Bebe Winans (Grammy-winning Gospel Singer/Songwriter).  She continued with the company for the show's premieres at The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the Arena Stage in D.C., and The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, playing the role of Penny.

Alison continues to study voice, strengthening her ability to cross-over between pop, country, gospel, and classical styles.

More to come in 2023 as further developments take shape in the coming months!

BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL

"Another stand out and not to mention knock-out bombshell is Alison Whitehurst as Cynthia Weil.  Her rendition of 'Happy Days Are Here Again' will make you wish you had a recording of it." – Broadway World

"...Sassy, sophisticated Alison Whitehurst as their friend and competing songwriter is just as engaging, invigorating and touching, if not more, than the pre-Broadway original.
San Francisco Examiner

"I particularly admire how Weil is portrayed as a smart, talented, capable professional woman whose ambition isn't mocked.  Alison Whitehurst nails the role."
-
DC Theatre Scene

"The sass that Alison brings to Cynthia offers a whole other level to the musical." - WEBN Boston

"Whitehurst is someone to look out for in the coming years.  She is one bucketful of talent." - The Column Online

"Whitehurst is terrific as the sassy, wise Cynthia Weil and she has a voice that can raise the roof.  Whitehurst has a way with the one-liners, but we also feel the friendship she shares with Carole." - Hotchka.com

"Alison Whitehurst brings an appealingly spiky vitality and a real sense of fun to the role of Weil." - The San Diego Tribune

"Comedic timing is something that can't be taught....Whitehurst brought a razor quick response to each piece of comedy." - Albuquerque Journal

"Whitehurst is so smooth but precise in her movements; every step was like a dance." - Broadway World

BORN FOR THIS: THE BEBE WINANS STORY

"Alison Whitehurst (Penny) excels...stopping the show with Penny’s spirited defense of “Forbidden Love.” -Steven Stanley, "StageSceneLA"

"While every supporting actor in the company of 20 are stars in their own right, kudos go out to Alison Whitehurst as Penny, the beautiful blonde Praise The Lord back-up singer who boldly crosses racial lines to date Bebe."

-Shari Barrett, "Broadway World"

RETURN TO SPOON RIVER

"Alison Whitehurst does a fine job in distinguishing the seven characters she portrays, adopting their array of accents, and expressing their feelings...a standout with her clear and beautiful soprano voice."

- Deb Miller, "DC Metro Arts"

COMPANY

"Alison plays April, one of Bobby's girlfriends. She gets the most stage time of the three and doesn't waste the opportunity. What could easily be a more minor role she imbues with heart and agency. She makes the audience care more about April than Bobby does." - Kris Noteboom, "Theatre Jones"

"Alison's flight attendant April is a much deeper and textured character than the dizzy flight attendant realizes. She somehow manages to find both the sublime truth and monumental density in April and almost steals the show in her brief moments.
- John Garcia, "The Column"

BIG RIVER

Alison struck a lovely figure as Mary Jane Wilkes, and her vocals with Huck on "Leavin’s Not the Only Way to Go" were a highlight of Act II."
John Garcia, "The Column"
